You've seen Audrey Hepburn be fooled by Gregory Peck pretending to have his hand bitten off in Roman Holiday. Well, here we are testing the fiber of our moral character at La Bocca della Verità . This was one of the few days that it rained- which might account for my hair, but certainly doesn't excuse the rest of my appearance! It turns out that we, along with the other 500 tourists in line to take this same picture, are ALL good, honest people. I was sort of hoping there would be paramedics standing by to administer to all the liars whose hands were severed by the old mouth of truth. Instead there was just some guy selling camera batteries and home-made ocarinas. The statue is the the portico of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin Basilica. The most interesting thing about the Basilica is that it has the skull of St. Valentine as a holy relic. We were often amused by the relics displayed all over Italy. Our favorite was in the Institute and Museum of the history of Science in Florence. They have Galileo's middle finger. Call us infantile, but we giggled for quite a while over Galileo giving his critics the finger for all time.
p.s. In reference to the bocca della verita, Dylan says, "You mean like if you said we have a cat it would bite your hand off?"
