Not for the faint of stomach

If you're stopping by here you might be expecting me to blog about this:But I am not. At least not today. Instead I will tell you about staying up all night with my sick baby. Then you will feel sorry for me, instead of envying me because I was just here:

Last night I woke up around 1 am as Ken was rushing down to Caitlin's room. She wakes up a few nights a month with a bad dream and needs a hug so I didn't think too much about it. I got up to use the facilities and Ken still wasn't back. Caitlin's light was on so I went over to investigate. Ken was cleaning her up and changing her pajamas because she'd thrown up everywhere. We got her and her room all cleaned up and checked her temperature, which was normal. We put her back to bed with a bucket next to her and went back to sleep. We assumed it was the hot dog she ate for dinner plus the candy she ate while watching Toy Story 3. Less than 20 minutes later Ken rushed back out. He was back in just a few minutes, she'd been sick again but he got there in time to help her aim, making clean up much faster! Then around 2 I heard her. I was too slow so we had to change the bedding and everything again. At 2:30 I heard her again, put the last clean sheet on her bed and decided to sleep a little closer to her. I set myself up on the lounge chair outside her door. I never was able to actually fall asleep but I think I did hallucinate a bit in between bouts of barfing. At one point I was positive we had a choir singing in the playroom but they were singing ominous music and freaking me out. Caitlin stayed super sweet through the whole ordeal. After round 4 or 5 she said to me, "Good night mommy. See you in the morning. I promise in the morning I will play quietly in my room and then come down for breakfast." After the next time I cleaned her up and tucked her back in she popped back out to hug and kiss me. The last throwing up was about 5:30 am. I did fall asleep for a bit after but at 7 am I could hear her knocking around. I went in to her room and she was laying on the floor next to her toys, attempting to play. I asked her what she was doing and she told me she fell out of bed over there. Half way across the room. Then she said, "Can you put me back where I belong?" I put her in bed, turned on a story for her to listen to and went back to bed. That was 3 1/2 hours ago and I haven't heard from her yet. Poor thing! Her room smells, she smells. Still no fever. Is there any way it's food poisoning? No, right?

Update: Caitlin woke up just after noon, crying. When we went in there and asked if she was feeling alright she said she was fine. "Then why are you crying?" "Because I was trying to say the alphabet but there are too many letters on the wall!" (she has the alphabet painted on the walls of her room)

What a long night!!! And it always happens at night, why is that? I think kids are at their most precious when they are weak from illness. I'm glad you preserved this little vignette, it is so sweet.

10 years today

Dylan made me these hearts as an anniversary gift. Sweet, huh? Ten years ago I was newly graduated from college, in love and ready to get married! Well, technically I was freaking out about getting married, which probably made Ken feel super good. Most of you know this story and the rest of you probably don't care, but it's my blog, so ppppthhhht! Ken lived across the street from me during our last year of college (but curiously, we were 24 and 25. Oh, how I love BYU). He and his room mate spent many evenings, and when I say evenings I really mean late at night, in my living room talking to my room mates, Laura and Cheryl (hi guys!). I would emerge from my basement lair, tell them to pipe down and then retreat for my beauty sleep and morning classes. Ken would hang out then go home, watch a movie, go jogging at 3 am and then sleep until noon. Somewhere in there I assume he also studied a bit but maybe not. He probably just showed up and dazzled his professors with his ...

A few projects

I made this pair of puppies from this really cute crochet book: They were my first attempts at animals and they showed me just how hard it is to crochet evenly and then attach all the limbs correctly. Dylan and Caitlin accepted these two little guys and love them in spite of their lopsidedness. But I decided to try again: Following the same pattern I made these two little puppies. There are still many things about attaching limbs that I need to master. Once the puppies were stuffed their eyes never looked quite like they were supposed to and the noses were obviously stitched on off center. But I learned to pin the limbs into place with straight pins before sewing that that helped me out immensely. Here's the other project from the same book that I have been working on:

some things about me

Is it cheating if I reuse material from another place? Once in college I used a paper I had written for one class for an assignment in another class. I told the professor and he acted like he was giving me a free pass by accepting it. Whatever! I wrote it! Is it my fault that it fit the assignments for two different classes? Anyway, I hardly ever do these but I spent a really long time compiling this list for a facebook meme so I am reprinting it with permission from the author (me) here: 25 things about me. 1. I like the weather to stay between 67-73 degrees. Preferably with sunshine. I also love thunder storms on summer evenings in Utah. They smell amazingly fresh and rainy. I like to watch them from inside. 2. I have enough embarrassing moments to fill this list but one of the most embarrassing was once in college when I thought my car was dead. I called a room mate to come pick me up, she called her brother to come look at the car and tow it. He drove 45 minutes to rescu...
