R.I.P.

Today we took the kids on a fun trip over the the Olympic Peninsula. The trip included a ferry boat ride, a drive long enough to convince me to bring the DVD player, a beach, pleasant walks, an old army base with old guns to climb on/around, driftwood huts, wild life (a deer and a clam the size of Ken's fist!) and alas, a broken camera. After misplacing my camera I finally unearthed it for this trip. I took lots of pictures with plans to share them on various blogs. I remembered to charge the camera batteries (that's a real accomplishment for me) and I even thought to tape the battery compartment closed since it's a little broken and the battery connection isn't constant. There are cute pictures of kids doing cute, sweet or funny things. Unfortunately we may never get to see them. At the end of the day I let Dylan take the camera. He took a picture of Caitlin and then wanted to take pictures of the beach from the top of a hill. He ran to take the picture, caught his foot in a little trench, smashed the camera and banged up his knee. His knee hurt only briefly but the camera's a goner. I am sure the pictures are safe- it's the lens that got smashed not the memory card but I can't get them off the card until I have a camera to read them. So imagine you're looking at pictures of the above. By the way, I didn't yell when Dylan broke the camera. AND even more impressive, I didn't yell hours later as we took our very tired kids to a restaurant and they behaved like wild animals. I am on a real streak!

Pictures once I fix the camera situation!

p.s. I almost forgot. Caitlin was so excited for the ferry but she kept talking about taking the ferry boat with the princesses. Finally I figured out that when we said ferry boat she understood fairie boat and thought there would be fairies and princesses on board. Luckily we figured it out in time to explain before we got on the boat that Tinkerbell would not be there.

oh man...the fairie boat is cracking me up...i'll smile all day now thanks to that one ;)
you do know you can put that memory card straight into the computer right? no camera needed?

Maybe the memory card goes straight into some computers but my computer pre-dates digital cameras. It's cheaper to replace the camera than the computer!

I just want to say that I am very inspired by your no-yelling streak. Keeping your cool with a broken camera is a big accomplishment!

Does Ken's laptop have a card reader? Our printer has one.

costco has them. I don't know where your closest costco is, but I am sure that other photo places have them. You could just get all the photos put onto a cd. Just an idea. Also, they have little converters that you can buy that plug into your pluggy-place on front of your computer (all computers have them, I just can't think of what in the heck they are called)

Did Dylan get hurt on the camera crushing fall? That is sweet that he wanted to take a picture of his sister!

Oooh! I bet our printer does have a spot for the card and Michelle, it plugs into a USB port, right? I will have to look in to that. Also a new camera! :)

Card readers aren't as expensive as a new camera, but since you'll be getting a new camera anyway, you might as well get both. You can get ones that accept various sizes of cards, so in case you get a new camera that uses a different size card, you won't miss out on those great pix you took on the old "smashed" camera.

10 years today

Dylan made me these hearts as an anniversary gift. Sweet, huh? Ten years ago I was newly graduated from college, in love and ready to get married! Well, technically I was freaking out about getting married, which probably made Ken feel super good. Most of you know this story and the rest of you probably don't care, but it's my blog, so ppppthhhht! Ken lived across the street from me during our last year of college (but curiously, we were 24 and 25. Oh, how I love BYU). He and his room mate spent many evenings, and when I say evenings I really mean late at night, in my living room talking to my room mates, Laura and Cheryl (hi guys!). I would emerge from my basement lair, tell them to pipe down and then retreat for my beauty sleep and morning classes. Ken would hang out then go home, watch a movie, go jogging at 3 am and then sleep until noon. Somewhere in there I assume he also studied a bit but maybe not. He probably just showed up and dazzled his professors with his ...

A few projects

I made this pair of puppies from this really cute crochet book: They were my first attempts at animals and they showed me just how hard it is to crochet evenly and then attach all the limbs correctly. Dylan and Caitlin accepted these two little guys and love them in spite of their lopsidedness. But I decided to try again: Following the same pattern I made these two little puppies. There are still many things about attaching limbs that I need to master. Once the puppies were stuffed their eyes never looked quite like they were supposed to and the noses were obviously stitched on off center. But I learned to pin the limbs into place with straight pins before sewing that that helped me out immensely. Here's the other project from the same book that I have been working on:

some things about me

Is it cheating if I reuse material from another place? Once in college I used a paper I had written for one class for an assignment in another class. I told the professor and he acted like he was giving me a free pass by accepting it. Whatever! I wrote it! Is it my fault that it fit the assignments for two different classes? Anyway, I hardly ever do these but I spent a really long time compiling this list for a facebook meme so I am reprinting it with permission from the author (me) here: 25 things about me. 1. I like the weather to stay between 67-73 degrees. Preferably with sunshine. I also love thunder storms on summer evenings in Utah. They smell amazingly fresh and rainy. I like to watch them from inside. 2. I have enough embarrassing moments to fill this list but one of the most embarrassing was once in college when I thought my car was dead. I called a room mate to come pick me up, she called her brother to come look at the car and tow it. He drove 45 minutes to rescu...
